I {finally} completed my pantry makeover!
I mentioned in June {wow it took me a while to finish this} that I was going to redo my kitchen pantry here. I ripped out the old shelves, painted, stenciled, installed new shelves, and organized all my goods.
Here's a before/after shot:

I will definitely be writing a couple more posts about the project explaining the steps... but for now I just want to sit back and show off my final reveal!
The organization makes me so happy!
I even took out a shelf {originally had 5, now 4} but since everything is organized and has its own spot, I ended up with way more room!
I'm even able to store my most frequently used craft supplies, my camera and its accessories so they're always in arms reach.
The containers are from Home Goods for $7 and I used some twine to add a piece of slate I had spray painted with chalkboard paint to label what's inside. And I scored that beautiful crate holding the paper towels for $5 off Craigslist.
While part of the makeover was for function and installing wood shelves, a large motivation was for its appearance so I added the boards in the back to add a dramatic flare and help blend in the side support bars. {Here's my one and only regret after having completed the project, I wish I had made these have longer in height for an even more dramatic backdrop but was nervous they'd be too overwhelming and hide the stencil design.}
The gorgeous stencil I used is from Cutting Edge Stencils. Once again returned to this company for their awesome and high quality stencils {previously used their stencil on my curtains}. The stencil I used was the Fuji which can be found here. I will most certaintly be doing a whole post on stenciling the pantry as it was a VERY difficult task stenciling on our textured walls.
As I said before I am just {LOVING} the organization I have now for the pantry!
Everything has a home...
A stroke of genius happened when I was trying to figure out the best way to organize our cans. I grabbed a magazine holder that was previously used for our cookbooks and recipes, tilted it on its back and VOILA:
It's the PERFECT size to hold our little cans of veggies! The two little stoppers are bobby pins I flattened and spray painted white!
UPDATED: Due to a years worth of inquiries I want to point out again, that this a magazine holder I originally purchased from HomeGoods. However, these cans are not traditional size, they are the "little" cans that are about half the size of regular cans. I have seen wider magazine holders at various stores but I am not certain they would fit traditional cans either.

However, these cans are not traditional size, they are the "little" cans that are about half the size of regular cans. The organization continues....
Jars were collected from random spots of Goodwill, Home Goods and thrift stores and used black vinyl {always purchased from my great sponsor Everyday Vinyl} to create labels for the jars.
To keep things neat I kept all the baking goods tucked into cheap pine wood boxes that were $1 each which I stained and labeled.
Put all the loose packets of tea, hot cocoa, apple cider, kool aid etc... into a big jar conveniently tucked next to our big pitcher.
We are a big on pasta kind of family and always have plenty of it around so to help with the organization I put the sauces right with the noodles. Makes for quick grabs when it's time to start dinner.
One last look:
I love it and most of the time now I keep those massive double doors open because I actually don't mind seeing into our pantry anymore!
I'll be doing posts about the painting, and how I did the shelves ... those to come!

ReplyDeleteOkay so I will admit it my pantry looks really bad and needs a big transformation like this. I love all the crates you used and the magazine rack is such a fantastic idea, cans are the worst thing and take up so much room. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOh what I wouldn't give for a real pantry! I live in married student housing and all I have is some wire shelving. This looks absolutely fantastic! I would love it if you linked this up to my weekly link party Tutorial Tuesday

ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! I am embarrassed to open my pantry. You have inspired me. thanks!!
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at this beautiful pantry, I will never again use the 'plastic' baskets from the dollar store. The wicker and wooden containers really dressed up your space!! Excellent job!!
ReplyDeleteCan you come organize my pantry? I absolutely love yours.
ReplyDeleteI looove the stencil and the detailing on the shelf. Gorgeous!! And i am swooning over all the containers.
ReplyDeleteIncredible job!!
Love the transformation! And the magazine holder? GENIUS! I might just have to use that one! Thanks for linking up-one thing-I was tired last night and forgot to add the rules/button code-could you come back and grab the code (if I put it here it reads it as HTML and just shows the button) to put on your post? Thanks I'd really appreciate it!

ReplyDeleteThat transformation turned out fabulous, exactly what I want to do in my walk-in pantry, so much wasted space with the wire shelving, and so hard to keep things from falling through the spaces. I'll keep this for inspiration! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLooking at your fabulous pantry makes me realize I should stop blogging and do some house work already lol.

It looks AMAZING... redoing my pantry is on the list of projects for when school starts. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteYou have totally motivated me to get my pantry cleaned up and organized! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThat can holder is FANTASTIC! Oh, your pantry is just gorgeous. Love the pattern on the walls, great color choice.
ReplyDeleteLove the can idea. We just moved into a new house a few weeks ago, and something that I initially thought was bizarre in the pantry is actually quite clever and useful. The previous owners put in the white vinyl coated shelves in our walk-in pantry. One of the walls has about 6 rows of angled shoe racks for the canned goods. The cans lie on their side all spread out but only 12" deep. You can find everything, see it in seconds instead of finding it buried in the back 5 years past it's expiration date. :-) I have lots of extra space on them so I put the bread, sodas, bottled water, premade protein drinks there too.
ReplyDeleteIt looks SO wonderful!! I am so jealous! I especially love the creative can holder!! Thanks so much for linking up to Saturday Social this week! I hope to see you next week as well!!

That looks great. You can come by and reorganize my pantry anytime... Oh wait, all I have are some small cupboards. I guess they'll continue to be jam-packed. But definitely enjoy all your hard work. It looks absolutely lovely. I hope I can find a magazine rack for my small cans. That's a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI love the way different bottles and jars are given the names and the size they have. For ex. spaghetti jar and noodles jar.
ReplyDelete-water bottle
Saw your pictures on For the Mommas and had a question about the magazine rack can storage? Are the cans the single serve size or regular 13-15 oz size? And are the bobby pins glued or just slid into place? Thanks and love the ideas!
ReplyDeleteWow!! Your pantry is amazing. I wish it was mine!!! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI love this! just got married and am working on getting the apartment in working order and this is up on the list.
ReplyDeleteI had a couple questions, what size were the cans in the magazine holder? and second, for the vinyl lettering, did you do those your self, as in draw the lettering yourself, or did you order it that way?
again, absolutely love the ideas!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE that stenciling!!! And that magazine holder w/ bobby pins - ingenious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great before and after! I really liked your magazine can holder and featured it at Storage Geek with full credit and link back of course. Great blog!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, I found this via Prudent Baby's babble post. My DSIL (sis in law) was looking for a can rack at all the big box stores before she got married, and couldn't find one. I just sent her this link and I hope it works for her. I'm gonna try it myself!
ReplyDeleteI have looked EVERYWHERE for Magazine holders wide enough to store my canned goods in and came up empty! Where did you find them?
ReplyDeletewhere did u get the magazine holder at?
ReplyDeleteLovely pantry!I must say you did a wonderful job.I have a question, for the labels I saw you mention that you used vinyl. How did you get the letters in that font?
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!! Wow! Love how tidy and clean - and love all the labels! Nice work!

Your pantry looks awesome, but I;m thinking were is the rest of her food? Guess you have a stockpile in the garage or a spare bedroom which i don't have that luxury. But you did give me some ideas to redo my pantry which is my only food storage.
ReplyDeleteLoved the magazine can holder. You can get the pop can plastic ones at the dollar store and then spray paint them. That's what i did.
WOW!!! It is amazing!!! Great job! One of the prettiest pantry makeovers I've seen :)
ReplyDeleteAm I the only one bothered by labeling the obvious - i.e. noodles? With glass containers, the contents are usually obvious. Difference between flour/sugar is less obvious when one is rushing about. Containers from thrift stores are delightful finds!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt was more of a cosmetic cuteness factor. I wanted it to be consistent with the other labeled jars. Same argument as the infamous fashion vs function ... and let's be honest fashion usually wins ;)
DeleteThanks for commenting! Appreciate you reading.
Pamela
Love, love, love the can holder!!! I've been looking for one for so long. Got one at Wal-mart but it doesn't work very well.
ReplyDeleteI love your pantry re-do! I featured it on my blog: http://www.organizinghomelife.com/archives/2238 Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteWhere did you originally get your magazine holder? I wondered around Target with a can in hand and nothing fit :'(
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry but this made me giggle picturing seeing someone in Target doing this :)
DeleteAs I said in the post they're little cans of veggies so they're not the full size. It's narrow enough that bobby pins fit through the front to keep them from rolling down. I've seen wider ones at like Office Max, Staples etc though!
Hope that helps
That is amazing!!! =)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Where might one find the pin boxes for $1?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I actually found mine on craigslist, but Michael's has similar ones for cheap and be sure to use your 40% off coupons! Also check $1 bin at Target, check JoAnn fabrics, if you have a Hobby Lobby nearby too!
DeleteAwesome job! I love the wooden boxes and the font you used!
ReplyDeleteAnother thing you can do to organize standard size cans....save (or ask a friend/family member/neighbor to save) the refrigerator soda boxes (12 pack), then you can either paint the outside, or cover them with contact paper, label- and there you have it...neat and orderly can organizers!! I personally like the look of the contact paper (which can be a little difficult to find!)- plus I think it gives some added strength to the box.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your pantry! I find organising an ongoing project and challenge!
Heather :)
Love the pantry! Love your site! Are your shelves really 12" deep? I'm trying to determine how wide I need.
ReplyDeleteHow awesome thank you so much! Yes they are 12" deep it's a great size!
DeletePamela
Love your pantry! Love your site, too! Are your shelves really 12" deep? I'm trying to determine how deep mine should be.

I have a serious case of pantry envy after seeing this. I just bought a house and it doesn't have any kind of pantry to speak of. I am hoping to have a cabinet/cupboard pantry built some time soon, but it will never be as grand as yours.
ReplyDeleteEven knowing this, your pantry truly is inspiring and I hope to use some of your ideas and adapt them for my tiny kitchen.
