Lyrics Board Reveal {Pinterest Challenge}

Edited Post: The How To for the Lyrics Board is here!

One of the first BIG projects I saw on
Pinterest
that I fell in love with with this oversized canvas with lyrics to a song.
I knew someday I'd attempt it:
{14 weeks ago... that puts us back into middle of April}

I purchased the materials needed a few weeks ago... and there they sat in the corner as a large pile of procrastination because I just knew how much work this project would be.  Well, the perfect motivation struck when the Pinterest Challenge emerged.  {Challenge Accepted}

{Lyrics: The Story by Brandi Carlile}

My original original idea was to have it printed on a 45"x60" canvas board but ultimately decided it would be too overpowering in combination with our queen bed, oversized head board, and oversized desk {future DIY project} in our master bedroom.   I thought having the lyrics stretched over 6 boards would help break up the space.

Why this song you ask?  It was a meaningful song to my husband and I when we were dating, and it was the song we danced too for our First Dance at our wedding.
It's a very non-traditional First Dance song {if you've heard it... imagine the awkward moment when she belts out screaming}.

I'm really loving how it turned out even though there are imperfections {just as most of my DIY projects}.  However, there's still something I may add.. it seems a tad small in width in comparison to the headboard so I might add some distressed wood on the sides to add a little more width and help frame it in.
{Did you notice I added height to my headboard!?
I added two more planks to create a more dramatic effect}

I'm trying hard to not get down on myself over imperfections on this project as not all the boards are perfectly aligned (trouble with having Lowe's cut your boards), and I think the distressing works against me in some spots... but overall I think I am happy with it.

What do you think!? Does it work in the space?
I'm so excited to see everyone else's Pinterest Challenge projects that will be linked up!

  36. It's AWESOME!

    I've had that lyric art pinned for months, too, and I couldn't decide what song I'd like to display. You've chosen a perfect one; it's one of my favorites. Very nice job!

  37. I pinned that too but haven't even thought about starting it so hats off to you. I like that its not perfect. The inspiration one isn't perfect either. That gives it uniqueness and character. If it's perfect, it looks like a mass manufactured product anyone could buy. Great job!

  48. I love this! I'm planning on making over the same project, but I love your take on it. The four boards were a very clever idea. I think I may have to copy that later on another room.
    Question, how did you do the lettering? Is it stenciled? It looks way too perfect, but I didn't know how else you'd do it.
    Again,I love it!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. How did you make the lyric boards? They're so cute!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thanks for the idea. We had two wedding songs and when I asked my husband which one I should do he said why not both. I went to the craft store with intentions on doing the square tiles like you but as I couldn't find something inexpensive I happened upon some frames that would work. What I plan on doing is using one per each song but making the text interesting. I love the ideas so much I think I will do my wedding vows too. Thanks, Terry

  51. I wish I could find somewhere or someone to make the canvas prints of lyrics. I saw something once on etsy of my wish lyrics spread over 4 canvases and really want it for our nursery. Yours looks awesome! Let me know if you hear of anyone who does this, I am so not creative enough to attempt this. ;)
